Hong Kong filmmaker Ann Hui to receive Busan’s Camellia Award

The Busan International Film Festival has announced that Hong Kong filmmaker Ann Hui will receive this year's Camellia Award. The accolade is presented to filmmakers who have made a notable impact on the status of women within the cinema industry. Hui is a central figure of the Hong Kong New Wave and has maintained a prolific career as a director, screenwriter, and producer. She directed her debut feature, The Secret, in 1979 and has worked consistently since, building a filmography that includes 27 feature films and two feature-length documentaries. Among her notable works, A Simple Life garnered multiple awards, including the Best Actress prize for Deanie Ip at the 2011 Venice Film Festival. The Busan International Film Festival previously announced Michelle Yeoh as this year's Asian Filmmaker of the Year.
