Ann Hui to receive Busan Film Festival’s Camellia Award

Ann Hui, a prominent and influential figure in Hong Kong cinema, is set to receive the 2026 Camellia Award at the opening ceremony of the 31st Busan International Film Festival. The ceremony will take place on 6 October at the Busan Cinema Center. The Camellia Award, established in collaboration between the Busan International Film Festival and the fashion house Chanel, aims to honour filmmakers who have played a significant role in advancing the status of women within the film industry. Hui began her professional career in 1979 with the film 'The Secret' and has since directed 27 feature films and two feature-length documentaries. The Busan International Film Festival is considered one of the most important cinematic events in Asia and is held annually in South Korea. The presentation of the Camellia Award to Hui celebrates her place in the history of Hong Kong cinema and her role in expanding the presence and prestige of women in film.
