Major League Rugby could get Buffalo team amid talks with 17 other locations
According to the Guardian, Major League Rugby (MLR), which will play with only five teams in 2027, is planning for expansion. MLR co-president Alex Magleby stated that the league is in discussions with 17 groups and aims to return to 12 teams by the 2031 Rugby World Cup in the United States. A letter of intent has been signed with the Buffalo Thunderbolts regarding a bid for entry in 2028. Following the departure of several teams in recent years, the league is now focusing on a disciplined, milestone-driven expansion framework to ensure long-term sustainability.
