Disruptions at Ben Gurion Airport as 90,000 Passengers Face Delays

Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel experienced significant congestion and long delays for thousands of passengers on Wednesday. Reports indicate that travelers were left waiting for hours on aircraft or in terminal halls for their luggage. The Israel Airports Authority rejected claims of a baggage handlers' strike, stating there are no labor sanctions or staff shortages. According to the authority, a backlog of approximately 90 flights accumulated within three hours, placing immense pressure on ground operations. Officials attributed the disruption to heavy summer traffic, restrictions in European airspace—particularly around Greece—and the activity of US aerial refueling aircraft. Approximately 90,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport today across 600 flight movements. Transportation Minister Miri Regev acknowledged the complex situation, noting that efforts are underway to maintain regular operations and minimize passenger disruption despite the ongoing aviation constraints.
