Ed Sheeran calls Gaza situation ‘unjustifiable’ following tour controversy

British pop star Ed Sheeran addressed the controversy surrounding his 'Loop Tour' during a performance in Philadelphia, describing the situation in Gaza as "catastrophic, unjustifiable, and disproportionate." Sheeran, who previously maintained an apolitical stance, also highlighted the "systemic injustice" unfolding in the West Bank. The controversy erupted after rapper Macklemore was removed from the tour following pro-Palestinian comments made during a concert in New Jersey. Sheeran denied personal involvement in the rapper's removal, blaming tour promoters, and apologized to his audience for his handling of the situation. Following the incident, four supporting acts withdrew from the tour in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. During the emotional Philadelphia show, Sheeran expressed his fear of public backlash and criticized the practice of venues pre-approving performance content, stating it should not happen in a "free world." While some fans praised his eventual statement, others, including student activists, accused him of complicity with stadium owners and joined calls to boycott his remaining tour dates. The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) has since urged a full boycott of Sheeran's world tour.
