Dubai to open two new lanes on Emirates Road to cut Sharjah travel times

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that two new lanes will open on a stretch of Emirates Road this Sunday. The project, designed to alleviate congestion between Dubai and Sharjah, expands a 5km section between Sharjah and Wadi Al Amardi on the outskirts of Dubai. By increasing the number of lanes from six to eight, the road's capacity will rise from 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour. Authorities stated that the expansion is expected to reduce travel times on this route by up to 25 per cent. Emirates Road (E611), spanning 110km, serves as a vital alternative to Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, allowing motorists to travel to Abu Dhabi while bypassing central Dubai. Furthermore, the UAE government launched a Dh750 million development project last year to expand a 25km stretch linking Al Badee Interchange in Sharjah to Umm Al Quwain, which includes building six bridges to further improve traffic flow for commuters traveling toward Dubai.
