US Midterm Elections: Battle for Control of Congress and Political Balance

According to Alhurra, a tight race took place on Tuesday between the Republican and Democratic parties to control the US Congress as voting began in the midterm elections. Republicans sought to maintain their majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, while Democrats aimed to seize it. Coming in the middle of Republican President Donald Trump's second term, the elections served as a test of Americans' satisfaction with his administration's performance, particularly regarding the economy, rising living costs, healthcare, immigration, and the war with Iran. The elections were held for 35 seats in the 100-member Senate and all 435 seats in the House. Democrats needed to win four additional seats in each chamber to wrest the majority from the GOP. Attention in the Senate race focused on seven states: Michigan, Texas, Ohio, Alaska, Iowa, Maine, and Kansas. According to state election office data, approximately 50.8 million Americans cast early votes by November 2 in 47 reporting states.
