Slovenian PM criticizes UN ‘double standards’ as Donald Trump promises visit

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša, speaking on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, accused the international body of applying double standards to global conflicts. He argued that the UN's intense focus on Gaza has overshadowed Russia's war in Ukraine and other humanitarian crises. Janša urged the organization to utilize its diplomatic and security tools equally across all conflicts rather than concentrating on a single crisis. The Slovenian leader also criticized certain European governments for their inconsistent stance toward the regime ruling Iran, noting the strategic ties between Tehran and Moscow. He asserted that lasting peace in the Middle East remains elusive without political change in Tehran. Janša, a long-time supporter of the Iranian opposition, contrasted his current government's approach with that of his predecessor, highlighting a shift toward strengthening ties with Israel. Additionally, Janša revealed that President Donald Trump has promised to visit Slovenia, the homeland of First Lady Melania Trump.
