Ireland must step up for World Cup countdown – Farrell

According to BBC Sport, Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has stated that his squad must improve across all areas if they are to realistically contend for the Rugby World Cup in Australia next year. Despite winning six of eight Tests in 2026, Farrell noted that defeats to France and New Zealand highlighted the need for greater consistency. He emphasized that the upcoming November schedule, featuring matches against South Africa, Argentina, and Fiji, is crucial for preparing the team for the intensity of the World Cup. Farrell also praised Argentina and their head coach Felipe Contepomi, noting that the Pumas, bolstered by new defensive coach Shaun Edwards, remain a formidable opponent ahead of their clash at the Aviva Stadium.
