Massive Explosion Rocks Al-Mokha in Western Yemen
Local sources have reported hearing a massive explosion in the city of Al-Mokha, located in the west of Taiz Governorate in southern Yemen. The blast shook the city on the evening of 7 August 2026, with Borna News reporting the publication time as 19:21. Citing the Yemeni news outlet Crater Sky, local sources stated that the explosion was likely caused by a missile believed to have been fired by the Yemeni armed forces affiliated with the Ansarullah movement. Early reports indicate the missile landed near the Al-Mokha coast and caused material damage, though no casualties had been announced by the time of publication. Crater Sky also claimed, citing local sources, that forces known as the "Yemeni National Resistance," commanded by Tariq Saleh—the nephew of Ali Abdullah Saleh—destroyed a boat belonging to Ansarullah. It is reported that the boat intended to target an oil tanker near the Al-Mokha power plant on the Red Sea coast and was intercepted before reaching its target. Al-Mayadeen network stated that initial information points to a new operation carried out by the Yemeni armed forces against forces allied with Saudi Arabia. Yemen's Al-Masirah television network also reported that the Yemeni armed forces will soon issue a statement regarding the operation. Independent details concerning the explosion and its potential link to the maritime incident have not yet been provided.
