The Snowman gets a hi-tech rebuild – with help from Raging Bull and a ‘Hot Santa’
According to the Guardian, the stage show The Snowman, a staple at Birmingham Rep since 1993, is undergoing a major reboot directed by former Royal Ballet dancer Will Tuckett. The production incorporates advanced automated flying systems and 3D video projections to enhance immersion. Tuckett, who drew inspiration from the visual perspective techniques used in Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull, aims to stay true to Raymond Briggs’ original illustrations while updating the show for modern audiences. Notable changes include casting dancers in the lead role of the boy and introducing a 'Hot Santa' character, designed to allow for more classical dance sequences. The production runs at Birmingham Rep until 1 November, followed by a run at the Peacock theatre in London from 21 November to 3 January 2027.
