Ben Jones, Dukes of Hazzard actor, dies aged 84

American actor and politician Ben Jones, widely recognised for his portrayal of Cooter Davenport in the television series The Dukes of Hazzard, has died at the age of 84. His wife, Alma Viator, confirmed that the cause of death was a heart attack. Viator announced the news on Facebook on Sunday, sharing a photograph of Jones holding his dog. She wrote that she had lost the love of her life, noting that he suffered a massive heart attack. According to Viator, Jones was resting in his favourite chair at home, waiting to watch the Atlanta Braves play the New York Yankees. She described him as having lived a rich and full life, adding that he was deeply loved by many and would be greatly missed. Beyond his acting career, Jones transitioned into politics, serving as a Democratic representative for Georgia in the United States House of Representatives.
