The Impact of US Congressional Elections on Baghdad-Washington Relations

According to Alhurra, the Democratic victory in the US midterm elections, securing control of both the House and Senate, has created a new environment in Baghdad-Washington relations. Senior researcher Rahman al-Jubouri believes that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi needs a new strategy to engage with the US under these circumstances. While some groups close to Iran in Iraq view these results as an opportunity for reduced pressure, analysts warn that Washington's fundamental policies toward Tehran and pressure on Iraq to curb armed groups will not change. The Iraqi government remains engaged in critical files, including security cooperation following the end of the international coalition's mission and the management of financial sanctions.
