Brisbane 2032: Sports forced to modernise to stay in Olympic race
According to The Guardian, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is holding secretive deliberations in Switzerland that could transform the program for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. These decisions may lead to the removal of events where Australia has strong medal prospects, including race walking, surfing, skateboarding, and climbing. Race walker Isaac Beacroft has proposed using microchips in athletes' shoes to detect flight time and eliminate subjective judging, aiming to keep the sport in the Olympics. Meanwhile, other sports like modern pentathlon have introduced obstacle courses to modernize. Andrew Liveris, president of the Brisbane 2032 organizing committee, has expressed frustration over the delay in the final decision, which is expected to be announced by the IOC in April next year.
