Tension between Shin Bet and Attorney General over election investigation

According to Channel 14 Israel, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and Shin Bet chief David Zini held a lengthy meeting on Wednesday to address their disagreements. The tension escalated after Zini requested to conduct caution-based interrogations of several Arab party members of the Knesset without providing sufficient evidence to justify such a move. The Attorney General, who is the legal authority for approving such investigations, opposed the request. President Isaac Herzog called for calm, stating he trusts the security agencies and describing the tension between the Shin Bet and the legal system as an inherent part of a democracy. Meanwhile, Judge Noam Solberg, head of the Central Elections Committee, clarified that the allegations regarding foreign interference in the elections remain mere suspicions and should not cast doubt on the overall election process or the votes of the Arab sector.
