Gaza-bound ‘Handala II’ vessel grounded following German port crash and fundraising failure

According to Ynet, the 'Handala II' vessel, organized by pro-Palestinian activists aiming to break the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, has faced significant setbacks before departing Europe. The ship, which set sail from Denmark, collided with a pier in the German port of Kiel, causing damage to its engine estimated at at least 30,000 euros. Beyond the physical damage, reports indicate that the activists' fundraising campaign reached only 10% of its target before donations ceased. Port authorities in Kiel have stated that the vessel is currently unsuitable for remaining in the port and poses a danger to other ships, particularly in high winds. The ship will not be permitted to leave until the damage to port infrastructure is settled and repairs are completed; German police have opened an investigation into the crew regarding the damage. Despite these obstacles, the ship's captain, Jan Wolnik, stated that the crew still intends to reach Gaza by September or October.
