Julie Andrews will not return for The Princess Diaries 3

Julie Andrews has confirmed she will not appear in the third instalment of The Princess Diaries franchise and will not reprise her role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi. In recent interviews, including one with Today, Andrews stated: "I won't be in it." When asked about her potential return for the sequel, she noted that the story is "a little different" and she is unsure how the filmmakers will approach the transition. She explained: "It's too late for me to do it. I think it should be about Princess Mia. It is her story, not really mine." Andrews and Anne Hathaway starred together in the first two films. Hathaway played Mia Thermopolis, a character who discovers her royal lineage and navigates the path to becoming a princess and eventually the queen of the fictional country of Genovia. Disney is currently developing the third film, but Andrews' comments clarify that the project will proceed without the character of Queen Clarisse. Deadline has also reported that a documentary regarding the life and career of Julie Andrews is scheduled for release on Disney+.
