Julie Andrews declines role in The Princess Diaries 3

Julie Andrews has announced she will not appear alongside Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 3. In an interview with InStyle magazine, Andrews confirmed she turned down the offer to return as Queen Clarisse. Regarding her decision, Andrews stated: "I think I probably did [turn it down]… the best way to describe it is that I am very much retired." She noted that the film's creative team had spent the past year inquiring about her interest in returning to the franchise. The actress described the decision as "very, very difficult," but explained that she feels her time in the series was a complete and rewarding experience. She added that the new instalment can successfully continue without the "grandmother" character, given her current age. The Princess Diaries 3 is a long-awaited sequel to the 2001 original and the 2004 follow-up, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. While Anne Hathaway is set to return, full plot details and a release date for the film have not yet been announced.
