RFL backs Wilkin’s £30m funding plea to Burnham

According to BBC Sport, Ian Nolan, the new chief executive of the Rugby Football League (RFL), has backed a call from former international Jon Wilkin for the government to approve a £30m five-year community funding plan for social impact projects in the north of England. Wilkin, citing the Australian government's investment in similar initiatives, urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to leverage existing rugby club infrastructure to benefit deprived communities. Nolan emphasized that because rugby clubs are already established in these areas, they provide a ready-made platform for such programs. Additionally, the RFL is consulting on structural reforms under the initiative 'One Game, One England' to improve the quality of national teams following recent disappointing performances in the World Cup.
