FBI data: Jews targeted in 63% of all religious hate crimes in US in 2025

Data released by the FBI shows that in 2025, Jews were the primary target of religion-based hate crimes in the United States, with 1,528 incidents. This figure accounts for 63% of the 2,408 reported crimes motivated by religion. Despite a 21% decrease in antisemitic crimes compared to 2024, Jews remain disproportionately targeted.

According to the report, Muslims were the second most targeted religious group, with 205 incidents. Overall, Black people were the most targeted group, with 2,811 hate crimes recorded against them. Jews, who make up approximately two percent of the US population, were the targets of 14% of all hate crimes recorded last year.

An analysis by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) indicates that the number of antisemitic hate crimes in 2025 was the third-highest on record. During this period, 162 physical assaults and three killings motivated by antisemitism were recorded in Washington, DC, and Boulder, Colorado. The most common offense was property destruction and vandalism, with 920 incidents.

The FBI data is drawn from law enforcement agencies across the US, though approximately 14% of agencies did not participate. However, the participating agencies cover 95% of the US population. The surge in antisemitic incidents in the US has been observed since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza.
