Two explosions reported near oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz

United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that two explosions occurred near an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday evening, approximately nine nautical miles off the coast of Kumzar, Oman. According to the agency, the vessel's master reported two separate blasts as the ship transited the strait. All crew members are safe, the vessel remains secure, and there have been no reports of environmental damage or oil leaks. UKMTO has advised vessels in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity. The agency did not provide details regarding the cause or origin of the explosions. This incident is the third maritime security event reported in this waterway over the past four days. On Monday evening, a commercial cargo ship northeast of Khasab, Oman, issued a distress signal after reporting it had been struck by an unidentified projectile. Authorities are currently investigating that incident. One day prior to the Monday alert, the master of another tanker reported an explosion in the vicinity of their vessel, which also resulted in no damage to the ship or its crew. These maritime disruptions follow recent public comments by US President Donald Trump regarding the resumption of diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran. However, no official link has been confirmed between these security incidents and current political tensions between Iran and the United States.
