Disney crosses $4 billion global box office milestone

Walt Disney Studios has surpassed $4 billion at the global box office for 2026, becoming the second studio to reach this figure after Universal, according to a report by Deadline. Toy Story 5, from Disney and Pixar, is the studio's highest-grossing film of the year, earning over $1.095 billion. This total comprises $624.2 million from international markets and $471.3 million from North America. The Devil Wears Prada 2, released under the 20th Century Studios banner, has also achieved significant success with nearly $692 million in global ticket sales. The combined global earnings of the franchise's two films have now exceeded $1 billion. Deadline identified the success of this female-led film as a key factor in Disney's strong summer box office performance. Alongside its sequels, Pixar's original film Hoppers has grossed approximately $390 million worldwide, including $166 million in North America and $223.6 million internationally. Conversely, Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu has earned $345 million globally, while the live-action Moana has reached $281.5 million, with $159.5 million from international markets and $122 million from North America. Deadline noted that The Mandalorian & Grogu has recorded the lowest box office for a live-action Star Wars film, falling below the $392.9 million earned by Solo: A Star Wars Story. The live-action Moana was released less than two years after the animated Moana 2 grossed over $1 billion. Upcoming releases in Disney's schedule include The Dog Stars from 20th Century Studios, Martin McDonagh's Wild Horses from Searchlight Pictures, Hexed from Walt Disney Animation Studios for the Thanksgiving holiday, and the highly anticipated Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on 18 December. Disney has held the title of the highest-grossing film studio in nine of the last ten years. The company is expected to unveil its production and release slate for late 2027 and beyond at the D23 fan event in Anaheim.
