Americans head to the polls for elections that could define Trump’s closing chapter

With two years of his presidency remaining, Donald Trump is facing potentially pivotal midterm elections as voters head to the polls on Tuesday. The Republican Party finds itself on the defensive in traditionally safe territory, such as Kansas, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas, as soaring costs of living, high fuel prices, and the ongoing war with Iran weigh heavily on Americans. Trump's approval ratings have dipped to around 38%, prompting him to campaign aggressively in states where his party usually thrives. However, final polls indicate that the Democratic Party also suffers from low popularity, with only 29% of voters viewing them positively, meaning voter frustration does not automatically translate into a surge of support for the opposition. If Democrats win control of the House, they could block legislation and launch investigations or cabinet impeachments, whereas winning the Senate remains a much steeper challenge with 35 seats up for grabs across tightly contested battlegrounds.
