Real Madrid close on agreement to sign Manchester United 16-year-old JJ Gabriel
According to the Guardian, Real Madrid is closing in on signing 16-year-old Manchester United forward JJ Gabriel. Madrid has offered the teenager a multi-year contract and hopes to bring him to the club in January. Manchester United has stated they will consider legal action if they believe any rules have been broken. Gabriel, who is registered with United's academy until the end of the season, walked out on the club in September and is believed to be training in Spain. Madrid intends to use a Fifa loophole that allows EU clubs to sign young players to professional contracts if they hold an EU passport. Gabriel, who was previously named United's academy player of the year and the Premier League's Under-18 player of the season, would likely progress through Madrid's B team, Castilla, if the move is completed.
