Mudslide in China leaves one dead and 11 missing following Typhoon Saudel

A mudslide in eastern China has left one person dead and 11 others missing following days of torrential rain brought by tropical cyclone Saudel. According to the Associated Press, the landslide struck a village in Suichuan County, Jiangxi province, in the early hours of Saturday, damaging a dozen homes. Rescuers were deployed to relocate residents to safer ground, and two individuals were pulled alive from the debris. China's official news agency, Xinhua, reported that Typhoon Saudel had previously made landfalls in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces. In Fujian, local authorities reported that more than 100 houses collapsed in the town of Huating, Putian city, after a dike was breached, flooding nearby villages. As of Friday night, approximately 600,000 residents had been evacuated from high-risk areas in Fujian. Footage from state broadcaster CCTV showed streets submerged by floodwaters, with rescue teams utilizing inflatable boats to reach those trapped.
