South Carolina Senate race: Darline Graham and Ralph Norman head to runoff

South Carolina Republicans head to the polls today, Tuesday, to decide who will replace the late Senator Lindsey Graham on the ballot for the November midterm election. The runoff follows a rushed campaign triggered by the senator's sudden death in July. Darline Graham, the late senator's sister who was appointed to serve the remainder of his term, faces Representative Ralph Norman. In the August 11 primary, Darline Graham secured nearly 33% of the vote, while Norman received almost 25%. The winner will face Democrat Dr. Annie Andrews in November. Darline Graham has received the endorsement of Donald Trump and Senator Tim Scott. Conversely, Ralph Norman, a member of the House since 2017, is backed by former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Graham, formerly the commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, has faced scrutiny regarding her lack of foreign policy experience. Norman, a veteran legislator and member of the House Freedom Caucus, has positioned himself as an experienced conservative, highlighting his opponent's lack of political background as a key issue.
