Two Ukrainian citizens injured in explosion near German train station

An explosion near the train station in the southern German city of Augsburg early Wednesday left two Ukrainian citizens with minor injuries. The victims were identified as a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man. Police spokesperson Timo Küfner stated that the station was temporarily closed after a suspicious package was discovered, but it was later deemed harmless and operations resumed by 10 a.m. local time. Police are currently investigating the motive behind the blast. The incident follows accusations by German authorities that Russia carried out a failed drone sabotage operation at Leipzig/Halle Airport. In response, Germany announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the termination of the contract for the 'Russian House' cultural center in Berlin. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul also announced stricter entry requirements for Russian nationals and additional measures targeting Russia's shadow fleet. The Russian Embassy in Berlin dismissed the accusations as 'absurd,' and Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that Moscow would respond to Germany's actions in a 'mirror-image' fashion.
