US delegation from Kansas visits Algeria following World Cup hosting

According to Al Jazeera, four months after the 2026 World Cup, the city of Lawrence, Kansas, is preparing to send a 40-member delegation to Algeria. The visit, scheduled for November 9-14, is in response to an official invitation from the Algerian government to honor the residents of Lawrence who hosted the Algerian national team during the tournament. The relationship, which began with the warm reception of the 'Desert Warriors' by the people of Lawrence, has now evolved into an official cultural exchange. The delegation includes the Mayor of Lawrence, city council members, police officers, and representatives from the University of Kansas. The visit comes as some social media users jokingly attributed the recent Democratic victory in the Kansas Senate race to the Algerian team's presence in the city. Reports also indicate that the possibility of a sister-city relationship between Lawrence and the Algerian city of Biskra is being explored.
