MK Simcha Rothman outlines judicial reform agenda for next Israeli government

MK Simcha Rothman of the Religious Zionist Party told Arutz Sheva that he hopes to secure a senior position in the Justice Ministry if a right-wing government is formed following the upcoming elections. Rothman stated his intention to continue pushing for sweeping changes to Israel's judicial system, which he championed during the current Knesset. His stated priorities include splitting the roles of the attorney general and chief prosecutor, establishing oversight bodies for the prosecution, and filling eight to nine vacancies on the Supreme Court. Addressing concerns regarding social polarization, Rothman rejected the premise that judicial reform legislation caused the divisions, arguing that past demonstrations were directed against the government rather than the reforms themselves. He suggested that the next government should proceed with legislation gradually and focus on core ideological values, such as opposition to a Palestinian state and economic strengthening. Rothman also criticized political campaigns centered on boycotting other parties, urging candidates to focus on policy and ideology instead.
