UN Security Council: Political impasse and drone strikes in Libya
The latest developments in Libya were discussed during a recent UN Security Council meeting. The country is currently facing a severe political impasse that has delayed long-planned national elections. Simultaneously, reports indicate ongoing armed clashes and drone strikes, one of which resulted in a major fire at a key oil refinery. During the session, an activist warned that the convergence of environmental crises—such as extreme heat and water scarcity—with political divisions and armed insecurity has transformed the situation into a significant international peace and security issue. Libyan state institutions are currently struggling to manage these multi-layered crises.
