Search underway for Indonesian passenger ship with 240 people in Java Sea

According to the Associated Press, the passenger ship 'Virgo Transport 8' lost contact while traveling from Surabaya in East Java to Banjarmasin on the island of Borneo. The Banjarmasin Search and Rescue Office reported that the vessel was last tracked approximately 92 miles from a pier in Banjarmasin, the capital of South Kalimantan province. Search-and-rescue teams launched an operation after receiving reports of a communications failure on board. As of Sunday, officials had not reported any deaths or injuries, and it remains unclear what caused the vessel to lose contact or whether weather conditions are impacting the search efforts.
