Florida venue cancels event featuring Tlaib, citing security concerns

The Venue Fort Lauderdale in Florida announced it would no longer host an event titled "Chomp the Oligarchy," citing security concerns and a review of promotional materials. Management stated that the venue is "Jewish-owned and operated" and that its commitment to the Jewish community is of fundamental importance. The event was scheduled to feature US Representative Rashida Tlaib alongside several candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Tlaib, a vocal critic of Israel, has faced significant backlash for her statements regarding the war in Gaza and her use of slogans that critics characterize as calls for the destruction of Israel. Organizers, including local DSA chapters and the Florida Youth Justice Coalition, condemned the cancellation, describing it as the result of an intimidation campaign. After the venue canceled the booking, and a second location also withdrew, organizers announced they would move the rally to a third, undisclosed location.
