Democratic attorney Marc Elias targeted in DOJ criminal investigation

According to CBS News, Marc Elias, a longtime Democratic attorney and vocal critic of the Trump administration, has been identified as a target in a Justice Department criminal investigation. The probe focuses on whether Democrats sought to confuse voters in Alaska by recruiting a candidate with the same name as Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. Sources indicate that approximately 20 target or preservation letters have been issued, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has received a grand jury subpoena. In response, Elias dismissed the probe as a "sham investigation" and accused the administration of weaponizing the DOJ against political enemies, stating he would not be intimidated. Michael Heyman, the court-appointed U.S. Attorney in Alaska, confirmed the investigation but denied that the timing was politically motivated ahead of the election. Meanwhile, President Trump has publicly called for Elias to be prosecuted.
