Mohsen Rezaei: Iran has set seven conditions for talks with the US

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told Al Jazeera that Tehran has communicated seven conditions for talks with Washington through intermediaries in Qatar and Pakistan. He identified the end of fighting on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade as key demands. Rezaei stated that Iran is awaiting a response from U.S. President Donald Trump and remains prepared for what he described as a "decisive war."

Rezaei also issued a sharpened warning regarding Iran’s nuclear doctrine, suggesting that U.S. and Israeli actions could provide grounds for Iran to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). However, he clarified that Tehran remains committed to Ali Khamenei’s religious ruling prohibiting nuclear weapons, while noting that the situation could change in the future.

These developments occur amid rising tensions between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA Board of Governors recently referred Iran’s nuclear non-compliance to the UN Security Council. Tehran blames the U.S. and Israel for the current impasse and maintains that its nuclear program is not intended for weapons production.

Simultaneously, the conflict in Yemen has escalated, with Houthi forces making gains near the Bab al-Mandab Strait. Reports indicate Houthi drone and missile attacks on targets in Riyadh and Aramco facilities in Yanbu. U.S. and regional sources have expressed doubt regarding Saudi Arabia’s ability to reverse these advances without additional support. Meanwhile, despite domestic political pressure from rising oil prices, President Trump continues to defend his Iran policy.
