Mohammed tops list of most common names among first graders in Israel

Just before the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the Population and Immigration Authority of Israel has published a list of the most common names among students entering the first grade. According to the data, 'Mohammed' tops the overall ranking for boys, followed by 'Yosef' in second place and 'Adam' in third. The names David, Omer, Ariel, Daniel, Lavi, Eitan, and Ahmad follow in the rankings. Among girls, 'Tamar' holds the top spot, followed by Miriam and Avigail in second and third place. The top ten list for girls is rounded out by Adele, Sarah, Yael, Noa, Shira, Lia, and Maya. The report also provides a breakdown for the Jewish sector, where Ariel and Tamar rank as the most common names for boys and girls, respectively.
