67% of Jewish population in Israel oppose deal involving Qatari shareholders in ZIM

According to a poll conducted by Midgam Consulting and Research Ltd., led by Mano Geva and commissioned by the ZIM workers' committee, 67.1% of Israel's Jewish population opposes the sale of the ZIM shipping company to a buyer involving Qatari shareholders. The survey, conducted in August 2026, reveals that 57.1% of respondents oppose the deal specifically due to Qatari involvement, while 10% oppose it under any circumstances. Only 2.4% of participants supported the deal without reservations, while 30.5% would only approve it subject to security reviews. Oren Caspi, chairman of the ZIM workers' committee, emphasized the company's strategic importance to Israel's maritime independence and supply chain security, urging the government to halt the deal. Opposition to the sale was recorded across all demographic groups and age brackets surveyed.
