Trump administration holds secret talks to deport Iranians even as war presses on, court documents show
Court documents unsealed on Thursday and obtained by the Associated Press show that the Trump administration held secret talks with Iran regarding the deportation of Iranians even as the war dragged on. The documents show the administration said as recently as mid-October that it had plans to deport Iranians through an unnamed third country, though the timeline remained unclear. Judge Ana Reyes ordered the government to provide 24-hour notice of any finalized deportation plans and five days of written notice prior to execution. Justice Department attorney Dimitar Georgiev-Remmel confirmed in court that the government was executing lawful orders of removal despite safety concerns raised by the judge. A legal group representing Iranian detainees, the Iranian American Legal Defense Fund, stated that at least a dozen detainees held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had received notices over the past week about upcoming deportations to Iran through Pakistan.
