Attorney General ties Haredi school funding to core curriculum compliance

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has filed the state’s response to a Supreme Court petition, clarifying that funding for Haredi educational institutions will no longer be automatic. The state indicated that Ministry of Education data reveals significant gaps in these institutions' adherence to the core curriculum, alongside failures in monitoring and enforcement. Consequently, continued funding is now contingent upon meeting strict requirements, including the implementation of the full core curriculum, the employment of appropriately trained staff, and participation in state evaluation and reporting frameworks. These measures take effect in the current school year. MK Moshe Gafni criticized the ruling, stating: 'If she decides what Haredi students should study, I demand that all Israeli children study the 613 commandments; otherwise, they should not receive funding.'
