Melania Trump calls for lasting Ukraine truce as she hosts Russian and Ukrainian officials

US First Lady Melania Trump called for a more enduring ceasefire in Ukraine as she welcomed Russian and Ukrainian delegations at the White House following last week's truce in the southern region of Kherson, according to BBC. Hundreds of residents in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky were able to evacuate during a six-day ceasefire, which both Moscow and Kyiv credited Trump with brokering. The event gathered senior officials including Ukrainian human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, his Russian counterpart Yana Lantratova, Ukrainian MP Davyd Arakhamia, and Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev. Trump handed personal letters to Dmitriev and Arakhamia for their respective presidents. Meanwhile, local sources and analysts noted that the ceasefire relied heavily on Russian willingness and American pressure, while deadly attacks continued elsewhere across Ukraine.
