New Wave of Iranian-Jewish Immigration from New York to Israel

Following the events of October 7 and the rise of antisemitism in the United States, several Iranian-Jewish (Mashhadi) families from New York have decided to immigrate to Israel as a group. These families, who held stable careers and comfortable lives in the US, stated that their decision was not born of necessity, but rather a desire to live in an environment where Jewish identity is the norm and to preserve their cultural and religious heritage for their children. Yosef and Tracy, among the immigrants, noted that while leaving behind extended family and established careers was difficult, they felt it was time to make Israel their true home. The relocation was facilitated by the Israeli Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the 'Israela' organization, and other partners. Dganit Sankar Langa, Director-General of the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, described this trend as a 'tectonic shift' in American Jewry, noting that the 'community-based immigration' model allows these families to maintain their social ties while settling in Ra'anana. While this current group has already begun their integration, reports indicate that additional families from the same community are exploring similar options for the future.
