Alessandra Sanguinetti’s debut film to premiere at Locarno

The Endless Summer Illusion, the directorial debut of Argentine-American photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti, is set for its world premiere at the 79th Locarno Film Festival in the Concorso Cineasti del presente section. Set in the Argentine Pampas, the film follows two cousins, Guillermina and Belinda, as they navigate the impatience of growing up. Between swimming in the river and dancing through long, humid afternoons, the girls stage mock funerals and perform surgical games on dead animals. According to Variety, the girls' daily desire to accelerate the inevitable passage of time serves as the driving force of Sanguinetti’s film, which blends a dreamlike atmosphere with the tangible details of rural life. The film is produced by Julia Solomonoff, the director and producer known for Nobody’s Watching. Financing for the project was provided by MUBI and Impact Partners.
