Ramayana: Rise of a Legend review – India’s most expensive film ever becomes spectacular, huge-scale epic
According to The Guardian, 'Ramayana: Rise of a Legend', directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is the most expensive film in Indian cinema history, with its first half presented as a three-hour blockbuster. Based on the ancient classical poem about Rama, the avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, the film features music by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. Ranbir Kapoor stars as the mythical Rama, a noble warrior whose destiny is to face off against Ravana (Naveen Kumar), the king of Lanka. Critic Peter Bradshaw describes the film as a spectacular adventure, noting that its forthright storytelling energy is reminiscent of the sword-and-sandal Hollywood epics of the 1950s and 60s.
