Hong Kong: Cruel Joshua Wong sentence a grim reminder of city’s disdain for human rights

According to Amnesty International, Sarah Brooks, the organization's Deputy Regional Director, described the 10-year prison sentence for Joshua Wong as a sign of the continued persecution of activists by Hong Kong authorities. This sentence, issued under the Beijing-imposed National Security Law, comes while Wong was already serving time for his participation in unofficial 2020 primaries. Amnesty International emphasized that the international community should not accept the criminalization of legitimate civil activism in Hong Kong and called for the overturning of Wong's security convictions and the repeal of laws violating human rights in the city.
