Pezeshkian claims US blocked Iran-Europe snapback mechanism deal
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the United States of preventing a deal between Tehran and European nations regarding the snapback mechanism. He stated that while Iran and Europe reached understandings on several occasions, these failed to materialise into final agreements following European consultations with Washington. Pezeshkian asserted that the US is effectively blocking international agreements between Iran and Europe. He added that while Tehran remains prepared for negotiations, it will not accept demands it deems irrational. The President previously noted that European parties have raised various excuses following their discussions with American officials. Pezeshkian dismissed reports of friction between his government and the armed forces, criticising attempts to drive a wedge between the political structure and the military. Regarding the possibility of his own death in conflict, he stated that he does not fear dying for his cause, viewing it instead as a victory. Emphasising Islamic unity, the President called for reduced regional tensions and stronger ties between Muslim nations, regardless of sectarian differences. Addressing tensions with the US in the Strait of Hormuz, Pezeshkian suggested Iran must strategically choose when to fight, when to seek peace, and when to focus on internal development. He cited China’s approach to its rivalry with the US as a model for growing stronger through internal focus. Regarding specific incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, he claimed Iranian forces engaged with vessels that had violated regulations after the other side alleged Iran had failed to uphold previous understandings. Pezeshkian defended the signed memorandum of understanding, challenging critics to identify any clause that signifies surrender. He warned that if forced to capitulate, Iran will fight and not retreat, though he added that if Iran’s rights are guaranteed, further conflict is unnecessary. He concluded by stating that the continuation of war is exactly what Israel desires.
