Pezeshkian Explains Ceasefire Agreement Signing Rationale

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian explained the reason behind signing a ceasefire agreement during a televised address to the public marking the second anniversary of his presidential inauguration. According to Borna News, he stated that the general terms of the agreement had been finalised and, to increase its credibility, Donald Trump was supposed to provide the final signature so that backing out of the agreement would not be possible. Pezeshkian added that less than 24 hours after this stage, the negotiation process changed completely and the agreement did not reach fruition. According to Borna, these remarks were published as part of the president's dialogue with the public. In other parts of his remarks, he said, "No government has taken as many steps in line with the leader's policies as we have," and emphasised that he has never resigned and never will. Pezeshkian also stated that by "consensus" he means the people, and that the path of reforms has begun and will not be halted. The president went on to say that Iran will not submit to coercion, but is neither seeking war nor aggression. He stressed the necessity of assigning posts to competent individuals rather than solely to fellow faction members, and stated that external pressure during the 14th administration has reached its peak. Despite mentioning the difficulties of the past two years, Pezeshkian said Iran is recognised today as a powerful and dignified country.
