Pentagon subjects 50 officials to polygraph tests over missile stockpile leaks

According to Al Jazeera and CBS News, the Pentagon has taken the rare step of subjecting approximately 50 Joint Staff personnel to polygraph tests throughout August. The investigation follows leaks regarding the status of U.S. missile stockpiles during the ongoing war with Iran. Pentagon officials stated that the probe aims not only to identify the source of the leaks but also to investigate the possibility of foreign espionage. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth previously announced the formation of a joint task force with the Department of Justice to combat leaks that threaten the lives of personnel. According to Reuters, the U.S. military has utilized a significant portion of its inventory of ATACMS, Tomahawk missiles, and Patriot and THAAD air defense systems. Analysts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) have warned that replenishing these stocks could take until 2030, potentially impacting U.S. deterrence capabilities in other regions, such as the Western Pacific. President Donald Trump, while asserting that the country possesses "massive amounts of munitions," has vowed to track down those responsible for these "treasonous statements" and pursue long-term prison sentences.
