Drone attacks Turkish bulker MV Golcuk in the Black Sea
The Turkish naval website announced that the bulk carrier MV Golcuk was targeted by a drone attack in the Black Sea near the Russian port of Novorossiysk on Friday, 7 August 2026. According to Borna News citing Turkey Today, the drone struck the crew's accommodation area, but none of the crew members were killed or injured. The vessel headed towards Istanbul following the incident. Based on registered information, the Golcuk is a bulk carrier built in 2002 and operates under the Turkish flag. The Maritime Voice portal described this incident as the latest in an ongoing pattern of attacks on ships owned by or flying the flag of Turkey in the Black Sea and Russian ports. Turkey's Directorate General of Maritime Affairs had previously stated that the cargo ship Nadezhda was targeted by a drone on 3 August, about 20 nautical miles from Novorossiysk, leaving three of its 22 crew members severely injured. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that two civilian vessels, Yasar and Nadezhda, were attacked after leaving Novorossiysk. In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said: We are deeply concerned about the escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea, a conflict that, despite Turkey's repeated warnings, has impacted civilian shipping. Previously, the Turkish-flagged bulk carrier Reyhan Sari was also targeted by a drone while travelling from the Russian port of Taman to Trabzon; one crew member was killed and three were injured in that attack.
