Real Madrid avenge EuroLeague final loss to Olympiacos with SuperCup triumph in Abu Dhabi

Real Madrid gained a little bit of revenge on Olympiacos Piraeus at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, as the Spanish giants lifted the first ever EuroLeague SuperCup on Saturday night. Madrid started hot, opening up a 24-15 first quarter lead before riding out a few tough moments to seal a 93-89 triumph in front of a packed crowd, including former Real Madrid stars Gareth Bale and Marcelo, at Yas Island's Etihad Arena. Walter Tavares was named the MVP of the tournament. Last May, Olympiacos had edged out Madrid in the EuroLeague's championship final. Madrid's winning coach Pedro Martinez praised his team's mentality. Earlier in the day, Fenerbahce took third spot by beating Dubai Basketball 85-77. Meanwhile, EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno provided an update on a long-discussed potential collaboration with the NBA, stating that as of today, the organization has not received any formal proposal from the NBA outlining what a partnership could look like, though they remain open to concrete proposals.
