ECB forecasting losses of up to £50m in 2027 despite visit of Australia for the Ashes
According to the Guardian, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed county executives that it could face a deficit of up to £50m in 2027, despite hosting the Ashes. This forecast follows a £12.6m profit in 2025. The anticipated shortfall is attributed to the cyclical nature of media revenues, which are heavily dependent on the identity of visiting teams, and a recent decision by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to withhold a portion of broadcast payments due in 2027. ECB sources expressed optimism that the final figure could be reduced to £35m through additional commercial revenue. The ECB remains heavily reliant on broadcast rights, which account for approximately 75% of its £310m annual revenue, and faces concerns over declining values in future media deals, particularly regarding the Indian market.
