‘Turner prize for dance’ winner Christos Papadopoulos: failure, friction and my forgotten youthquake
According to the Guardian, Greek choreographer Christos Papadopoulos, who won the inaugural Rose international prize for choreography in 2025, has discussed his new production, My Fierce Ignorant Step. Papadopoulos, who invested his £40,000 prize money into supporting his dancers and production costs, states that the work is a return to the idealism and optimism of his youth. Noting that his first attempt at creating the show was a failure, he explains how he used friction and technically difficult choreography to foster collaboration and a sense of shared joy among the dancers. Inspired by the poetry of Odysseus Elytis, the show serves as an invitation to activism and change in today's world and is scheduled to be performed at Sadler’s Wells East in London on 13-14 November.
